SOUTHWATER CAYE, BELIZE

Southwater Caye, Belize

Twelve miles off the coast of Dangriga sits the idyllic island known as Southwater Caye. This beautiful island is one of the most visually stunning locations in all the Caribbean. The island is small, at just less than 12 acres in size, and guests can walk from one end to the other in about 5 minutes. Drenched in palm trees and located right on the Barrier Reef, the island life on South Water Caye is both unhurried and relaxing. Keys used to be like 50 years ago, and the two properties that we book our guests into on South Water Caye, IZE and the Blue Marlin, very much reflect this laid back atmosphere.

The natural beauty of this island is wonderful, but we bring our guests here for the fishing. Because the island is located right on the Barrier Reef, there is a vast array of excellent fishing opportunities for fly rodder's of all skill levels. The bonefish that live around the island are plentiful and the flat at the back of the island provides great wading opportunities. It's also a great place to get the kinks out of your casting stroke after a couple of months of inactivity.

There are several good permit grounds to the north of South water Caye as well as in the Blue Ground Range of cays, which is located directly to the west of South water. To the south, the countless saltwater permit flats are the finest in the world. These pristine flats hold incredible numbers of permit, and can be counted on for numerous quality shots while wading. We even have a couple of secret lagoons back on the mainland, which hold good numbers of bonefish. Tarpon fans will delight in the year round resident schools of fish that live within a half hour of the lodges. In the spring, both the Tobacco Caye and South water Caye channels become active feeding zones for the migratory tarpon that run the reef.

NAMSEN RIVER, NORWAY

Uppen Namsen Fishing, Norway

The Namsen River runs through the county of Nord- Trøndelag in the northern part of Central Norway.

Angling, as we now know it started on the Namsen during the 1830s when British noblemen discovered the virtues of the river. They quickly named Namsen the ‘Queen of the Rivers’ and rumours of record catches and salmon sizes spread among distinguished fly fishermen, bringing an increasing number of British anglers.

Although the Namsen is particularly famous for its big salmon, it also offers very good runs of medium size salmon and grilse. Throughout the season there is always the chance of catching ‘the big one’. Every year there are a number of fish in the 40 - 45 pound category. The biggest fish ever caught by rod (1924) measured 55" with a 33" 'waist' and weighed 69lb (31,5kg). In 2004, the biggest catch was 24,3 kilos (53 lb).

Upper Namsen Fishing offers a choice of accommodation, all to a very high standard - all dedicated to the needs of anglers. Our main facility, Hotel Vertshuset Grong has been run by us for 25 years and has built a reputation for the excellence of its accommodation and catering. The Mediaa Motel is situated next to the Hotel Vertshuset Grong in the village centre and guests at the motel will have their meals at the hotel. Fossland Lodge is located right on the river bank, some three kilometres from Grong village and serves the fishing on the Fossland beat and the Upper Mediaa beat.
